Dantrium is a muscle relaxant that helps treat spasms caused by nerve disorders such as, stroke, spinal cord injury, or cerebral palsy. By restoring a healthy level of calcium in the muscles, or interfering with the release of substances that are needed by the muscles for contraction, Dantrium prevents or reduces severe (high) body temperature.
Do not use Dantrium if you:
- are allergic to any of the ingredients which are present in Dantrium;
- have active liver disease, heart disease, or any lung problems.
Tell your doctor if:
- you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding (Dantrium is excreted in breast milk);
- you are older then 35 years;
- you are using estrogen;
- your spasticity is needed to maintain an upright posture or balance while walking, or to obtain or maintain increased function.
Dantrium may cause dizziness, drowsiness, or changes in vision. Do not drive, operate machinery, or do anything else that could be dangerous until you know how you react to this medication. Using Dantrium alone, with certain other medicines, or with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or perform other potentially dangerous tasks.
