Singulair Granules (active ingredient: montelukast) is a prescription medication indicated for the following:

  1. Asthma: Singulair Granules are used for the prevention and long-term treatment of asthma in children aged 12 months and older, helping to reduce the frequency and severity of asthma attacks.
  2. Exercise-Induced Bronchoconstriction: It is also indicated to prevent exercise-induced bronchoconstriction in patients aged 6 years and older.
  3. Allergic Rhinitis: Singulair Granules are used to relieve symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever) and perennial allergic rhinitis in children aged 6 months and older.

Singulair Granules belong to a class of drugs known as leukotriene receptor antagonists, which work by blocking the action of leukotrienes, substances in the body that cause inflammation and constriction of airways.

Singulair Granules can be taken orally with or without food as directed by your doctor. The dosage is age and condition-dependent, and there are three ways to consume it- swallow the granules plain, dissolve them in specific liquids, or mix them with a spoonful of soft food (like applesauce) before swallowing. It is recommended to take the dose within 15 minutes after opening the foil packet.

Take Singulair Granules at the same time each day. If you are taking Singulair Granules for asthma or for both asthma and allergies, take your dose in the evening. If you are taking Singulair Granules to prevent only allergies, take your dose either in the morning or the evening.

If you are taking Singulair Granules to prevent breathing problems during exercise, take your dose at least 2 hours before exercise. Do not change your dose or stop using Singulair Granules without consulting your doctor. Do not take more than one dose in 24 hours. Do not take a dose before exercise if you are already taking this medication daily for asthma or allergies. This may increase the risk of side effects.
