Sialor (generically known as Anethole Trithione) is an oral medication used as a sialogogue, or saliva stimulant, for patients who have dry mouth or autoimmune exocrinopathy such as Sjgren’s syndrome. It requires several days to take effect and is available without a prescription.
Sialor belongs to the group of organic compounds called dithiolethiones. It works by increasing the production of saliva by activating potassium channels in the salivary glands. This increase in salivary flow can relieve the symptoms of dry mouth or xerostomia. Additionally, Sialor may have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, which may contribute to its therapeutic effects.
Sialor is a medication that comes in the form of tablets that are taken orally. The tablets are typically taken three times a day, with one tablet taken before each meal. It should be swallowed whole with a glass of water. Chewing or crushing the tablets may affect how the medication is absorbed by your body and could affect its effectiveness.
