Salofalk Enema (active ingredient: mesalamine) is a prescription medication indicated for the following:

  1. Ulcerative Colitis: Salofalk Enema is used for the treatment of active ulcerative colitis, particularly affecting the rectum and lower part of the colon, to reduce inflammation and control symptoms.
  2. Maintenance of Remission: It is also indicated for the maintenance of remission in patients with ulcerative colitis to help prevent relapse of symptoms.

Salofalk Enema belongs to a class of drugs known as 5-aminosalicylic acid (5-ASA) derivatives, which work by reducing inflammation in the gastrointestinal tract to manage and prevent symptoms of inflammatory bowel disease.

To properly use Salofalk Enema, it must be inserted through the rectum as it should not be consumed orally. Administer the Salofalk 4g/60ml Enema preferably at bedtime.

Before using the enema, first empty the bowels, wash your hands, and shake the bottle for 30 seconds. After removing the protective cap from the applicator, place the bottle with the upper end in your hand and lie on your left side. Extend your left leg and bend your right leg to facilitate the action of the enema. Insert the applicator, which is coated with lubricant for easier insertion, into the rectum and point the bottle towards your navel. Gently and tightly squeeze the bottle while maintaining this position. Once the bottle is empty, remove the applicator from the rectum.

Continue with this position for at least 30 minutes to ensure the enema spreads throughout the lower part of the large intestine. Finally, wash your hands again and avoid emptying your bowels again for the rest of the night. Remember that Salofalk Enema should only be used rectally.
