Rapaflo (active ingredient: silodosin) is a prescription medication indicated for:

  • Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH): Rapaflo is used for the treatment of the signs and symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate) in adult men.

Rapaflo belongs to a class of drugs known as alpha1-adrenergic blockers, which work by relaxing the muscles in the prostate and bladder neck, making it easier to urinate.

Rapaflo (Silodosin) is available in capsule form and should be taken orally as prescribed by a doctor, usually once daily with a meal. If you have difficulty swallowing the capsule, you may sprinkle the contents of a capsule onto a tablespoon of cool, soft applesauce and swallow it right away within five minutes. Do not chew or save the mixture for future use, and do not use hot applesauce. A glass of cool water should be consumed after each dose.

Silodosin may cause a sudden drop in blood pressure, which may result in dizziness or fainting. The risk of this is higher when starting the medication, when increasing the dose, or when resuming therapy after discontinuation. During these times, avoid situations where fainting may result in injury.

To reduce the chances of injury from dizziness or fainting, the first dose of silodosin should be taken at bedtime with food so that the body can adjust to its effects. The dosage of the medication is determined by the medical condition and the individual’s response to treatment.
