Kenalog in Orabase is a dental paste medication used for the temporary relief of symptoms associated with mouth sores due to injury, including canker sores. It can be indicated to relieve the discomfort and pain caused by mouth ulcers and other oral lesions and can also help reduce inflammation and swelling.
Kenalog contains triamcinolone acetonide as the active ingredient. It works by reducing the swelling, itching, and pain that may occur due to mouth sores caused by injury, including canker sores.
Apply Kenalog in Orabase to the affected area 2 to 3 times daily after meals or at bedtime, as directed by your doctor or dentist. The paste should not be applied to the eyes or on the skin. It should only be used inside the mouth. The treated area should not be bandaged or otherwise covered or wrapped unless your healthcare provider directs you to do so.
Dab or press (do not rub) a small amount of paste onto the area to be treated until the paste sticks and a smooth, slippery film develops. A cotton swab may be used to apply the paste. Do not attempt to spread or rub the paste in, as this will cause it to become crumbly, grainy, or gritty.
Mouth infections may worsen while using this medication. Inform the prescribing doctor or dentist if your condition lasts or gets worse after 7-14 days of treatment.
