FreeStyle Lite Test Strips are a type of test strip used in glucose monitoring for people with diabetes. They are designed for fast and easy testing, requiring only a small blood sample size. The test strips are intended to be used with the FreeStyle Lite Blood Glucose Monitoring System and other glucose monitoring systems.

Freestyle Lite Strips are glucose test strips designed to work with the FreeStyle Lite and FreeStyle Freedom Lite blood glucose monitoring systems. The strips use ZipWik technology, which makes it easier to apply blood to the strip and reduces the likelihood of errors during testing.

To use FreeStyle Lite test strips, you need to insert the strip into the FreeStyle Lite or FreeStyle Freedom Lite blood glucose meter, and then apply a small drop of blood to the strip. The strip will then measure the amount of glucose in your blood and display the result on the meter.

To use Freestyle Lite strips, follow these general steps:

  1. Wash and dry your hands. Use soap and water to wash your hands, then make sure your glucometer is clean. You can use an alcohol pad to wipe down the machine, if needed.
  2. Remove your test strip. Once you remove a test strip from its container, make sure to place the cap back on immediately. Test strips can be damaged if they are exposed to moisture or changes in temperature.
  3. Massage the finger you will draw blood from. This will help bring blood flow to the finger.
  4. Prick the tip of one finger using a lancet. A lancet is a small needle that can be inserted into the skin to draw blood. A lancing device may be used to hold the lancet and make this process easier and less painful. The lancet should prick the top of your finger on the side (not in the center.)
  5. Place a small amount of blood on the correct end of your test strip. You may need to apply pressure to your finger to get enough blood for the test. You can do this by squeezing from the base of the finger toward the tip. The blood will be quickly absorbed by the test strip.
  6. Place your test strip in the glucometer. Turn on your glucometer and insert the diabetic test strip in the machine. If you did not get enough blood on your test strip, your glucometer will usually let you know.
  7. Read your test results. Write your results down. Follow your healthcare provider’s instructions for alerting them about high or low blood glucose levels.
  8. Throw away your used test strip and lancet. You should throw lancets away in a designated sharps container. If you do not have one, use a hard container that cannot be punctured and can be sealed when it is close to full. Test strips can go in the same container as your lancets.

Follow the instructions provided in the meter and strips’ owner’s booklet for detailed information on how to use them. Additionally, individuals should always consult their healthcare provider for guidance on the safe and appropriate use of Freestyle Lite strips.

Serious Side Effects of Freestyle Lite Strips (Test Strips – non-Rx):

  • Inaccurate readings: In some cases, test strips may give readings that are higher or lower than the true blood glucose level, leading to incorrect dosing of insulin or other medications.
  • Skin irritation: Repeated skin punctures from using test strips can cause skin irritation, and in some cases, eczema, or dermatitis.
  • Infection: If the testing site is not clean or hygienic, there is a risk of introducing bacteria or other pathogens into the bloodstream and causing an infection.
