Diovan belongs to a class of drugs known as angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs), which work by blocking the action of angiotensin II, a substance in the body that causes blood vessels to constrict, thereby lowering blood pressure and reducing the workload on the heart.

Valsartan comes in the form of a tablet to be taken orally with or without food, as prescribed by your doctor, usually once or twice daily. The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. For children, the dosage is also based on their weight. Your doctor may adjust your dose as needed, but the maximum dose should not exceed 320 mg per day.

Do not drive, operate machinery, or do anything that requires alertness when taking Diovan or after using alcohol or marijuana (cannabis). Avoid alcoholic beverages. Talk to your doctor if you are using marijuana (cannabis).
