Diflucan (its Generic Fluconazole) is a prescription antifungal medication taken orally to treat fungal infections throughout the body, including the mouth, throat, gastrointestinal system, respiratory system, bladder, and genitals. It may be used as a single therapy or in combination with other medications.

Fluconazole is a prescription azole antifungal medication used to prevent and treat a variety of fungal and yeast infections. It works by inhibiting the growth of certain types of fungi, helping to reduce the severity and duration of the infection. Appropriate monitoring and dose adjustments may be necessary when administering this drug, depending on the severity of the infection.

This powerful medicine can be taken orally either with or without food, depending on the instructions of your doctor. In most cases, the dosage is once a day. Taking this medication in the prescribed manner will enable you to fight off fungal infections and restore your health.

For optimal efficacy of the Diflucan medication, it is important to maintain a consistent level of the drug in the body. Therefore, it is recommended that patients take their dose at the same time each day as directed by their doctor. You should continue taking this medication until the full prescribed amount is finished, even if symptoms disappear after a few days. Stopping the medication too early may allow the fungus to continue to grow, which may result in a return of the infection.

The dosage of this medication should be based on the patient’s medical condition and response to treatment. The dose and duration of treatment may vary depending on the severity of the infection and the response to the medication.

  • The recommended dosage of Diflucan for the treatment of vaginal candidiasis is 150 mg as a single oral dose.
  • In the case of oropharyngeal candidiasis, a dose of 200 mg on the first day, followed by 100 mg once daily is suggested. Treatment should be continued for at least two weeks to reduce the risk of relapse.
  • For esophageal candidiasis, a dosage of 200 mg on the first day, followed by 100 mg once daily is recommended, with doses up to 400 mg/day based on the patient’s response to therapy. The treatment of esophageal candidiasis requires at least three weeks of treatment and two weeks of follow-up after resolution of symptoms.
  • The recommended dosage for the treatment of acute cryptococcal meningitis is 400 mg on the first day, followed by 200 mg once daily, with doses up to 400 mg/day based on the patient’s response to therapy. Treatment should continue for at least 10 to 12 weeks after the cerebrospinal fluid becomes culture negative.
  • Diflucan can also be used for the prevention of candidiasis in patients undergoing bone marrow transplantation at a dosage of 400 mg, once daily.

For pediatric patients, the dose should be adjusted according to the patient’s weight. As a general guideline, the maximum daily dose for children should not exceed 600 milligrams, unless otherwise instructed by the doctor.
