Besivance (active ingredient: besifloxacin) is a prescription medication indicated for:

  • Bacterial Conjunctivitis: Besivance is used for the treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis (pink eye) caused by susceptible organisms.

Besivance belongs to a class of drugs known as fluoroquinolone antibiotics, which work by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV enzymes, thereby interfering with bacterial DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination, leading to bacterial cell death.

To use Besivance ophthalmic suspension 0.6%, ensure that you follow the instructions provided by your doctor or pharmacist. Besivance is for use in the eye(s) only and is available only with a doctor’s prescription. Remove any contact lenses before using the medication and wait for at least 15 minutes after applying the eye drops before reinserting them.

The usual dose is one drop in the affected eye(s) twice a day, approximately 6 to 12 hours apart, for 7 days. Complete the full course of treatment, even if your symptoms improve after a few days of using the medication.

Besivance is only used for treating bacterial eye infections and not for other types of eye infections. If you experience any adverse effects or allergic reactions while using Besivance, discontinue usage and contact your healthcare provider immediately.
