Benadryl Itch Spray is an over-the-counter topical medication that can be used to provide relief from skin irritation and itching. This itch relief spray provides fast, effective relief from pain and itching associated with insect bites, minor burns, sunburn, minor skin irritations, minor cuts, scrapes, and rashes due to poison ivy, oak, and sumac.

Benadryl Itch Spray contains 2% diphenhydramine HCl as a topical analgesic and 0.1% zinc acetate as a skin protectant. Diphenhydramine belongs to a class of drugs known as antihistamines. It works by blocking the effects of a certain natural substance (histamine) that causes itching. Zinc Acetate helps relieve symptoms such as dry skin, weeping, or oozing.

Use Benadryl Itch Spray only on the skin as directed by your doctor. If you are self-treating, follow all directions on the product package. Apply to the affected area as directed, usually no more than 3 to 4 times a day.

  1. Clean the affected area with soap and water, then gently pat dry.
  2. Shake the can well before use.
  3. Apply the spray to the affected area as directed by your doctor or the product package label.
  4. Wash your hands immediately after use unless the area being treated includes the hands.
  5. Use the spray no more than 3 to 4 times a day, unless directed otherwise by your doctor.

Do not use it on large areas of the body or more often than directed, as this may increase the risk of side effects. Avoid getting the spray in your eyes, nose, ears, or mouth. If it gets in any of these areas, wipe it off and rinse with water.

Stop using the spray and consult your doctor if your condition worsens, if symptoms do not improve within 7 days or last after 7 days of treatment, or if symptoms clear up and return in a few days. If you suspect you have a serious medical problem, seek medical help immediately.
