Bactroban ointment is a topical antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections of the skin. Its active ingredient is called Mupirocin. Mupirocin belongs to a class of drugs called Topical Antibacterial. Mupirocin works by inhibiting bacterial growth and fighting the spread of infection. It is applied directly to the site of infection and works to reduce inflammation and kill bacteria.

For MRSA colonization, it may be used as an adjunct to other treatments, such as antibiotics, antiseptic washes, or topical antiseptics.
Bactroban Ointment is a topical medication used to treat certain skin infections, such as impetigo. The ointment should be applied to the affected area using a cotton swab or gauze pad three times per day for up to 10 days. Cover the treated area with a gauze dressing if desired. If there is no clinical response within 3 to 5 days, patients should be re-evaluated. Bactroban Ointment should not be used for intranasal, ophthalmic, or other mucosal use.
Patients should not apply Bactroban Ointment concurrently with any other lotions, creams, or ointments as this may lead to decreased effectiveness and other adverse reactions. It is advised to apply Bactroban Ointment alone to the affected area for optimal results.
