Aricept ODT is available in the form of orally disintegrating tablet for oral administration. The tablet should only be removed from its protective pouch when it is time to take it and hands should be dried before handling the medication. The tablet should not be pushed through the foil due to the risk of damage. To take the dose, the tablet should be placed on the tongue, where it will quickly dissolve. Once it is dissolved completely, it should be followed with a glass of water.
Dosage for Aricept ODT is based on the individual’s medical condition and response to treatment. It is usually taken once per day before bedtime, and insomnia should be discussed with the prescribing physician to consider switching to a morning dose. To minimize the risk of side effects like diarrhea and nausea, a low dose is recommended at the beginning of treatment, with gradual increases over weeks to months. The dosage should never be increased, nor the drug be used more often than prescribed.
If the patient does not take Aricept ODT for more than 7 consecutive days, speak with a prescribing physician before resuming the medication, as a lower dose may be necessary. To get the most benefit from the tablet, it should be taken regularly at the same time each day. The medication should only be stopped on the direct instruction of the prescribing physician, and it may take several weeks to achieve maximum therapeutic effect.
