Health Dangers of Being Underweight

Overeating and the obese results are headlining everywhere, and people are forgetting those who under eat and are underweight. Being underweight is a major health concern as well.
Infertility – Many women who have suffered from an eating disorder such as anorexia nervosa or bulimia become infertile later in life. Women who over- exercise until their weight is unhealthily low are also likely to be infertile.
Vitamin Deficiency – This is associated with under eating. Having a lack of vitamin D in your body can cause immune system complications. Vitamin D to is required to metabolize calcium. A lack of vitamin C can cause scurvy. A lack of iron cause anemia. Just a slight deprivation from vitamins and minerals can cause unpleasant symptoms. With a weakened immune system from the lack from the lack of nutrients you may be more susceptible to illnesses.
Hair Loss – Because of malnutrition hair thinning or hair loss is possible. People who are extremely thin may also have a thin layer of hair grow on their arms, legs, or stomach.

- Eat larger portions for your 3 main meals.
- Snack on small healthy things all the time. Protein bars, crackers, trail mix, dried fruit, and nuts are good choices.
- Eat calorie dense foods. This includes seeds, beans, nuts, peas, and cheese. For example if you are having pasta add shrimp or fish and lots of cheese to increase the calorie intake.
- Drink lots of fruit juice or milk.
- Add powdered dry milk to your cereals and casseroles.
