Duac acne gel contains the active combination of clindamycin and benzoyl peroxide. Together they are proven to help fight acne more effectively than when either is used alone.
Why do I have acne?
During puberty your body starts producing hormones. These hormones cause glands in your skin to make larger amounts of oil. The biggest culprits in oil production are the male hormones (androgens), which females have as well (but only in smaller amounts). The oil, mixed with dead skin cells, sometimes clogs the pores. Clogged pores are a great place for normal skin bacteria to multiply. This growth produces inflammation of the pore. When the pore bursts, inflammation spreads to other parts of your skin. That’s how blackheads become pimples, and possibly hard nodules.
Acne usually develops in your early teens and disappears by your mid 20s. But it can last longer. Whether you are male or female can make a difference. As a woman, when you get older, your menstrual cycle and changing hormones cause more oil to be produced in your pores. Some women get outbreaks around the time of their period. Even as you become an adult, your hormonal patterns can still cause acne. People can also develop adult acne during pregnancy or when they stop taking birth control pills. Some acne cases have been linked to ovarian cysts. The one common factor is a change in hormones. Another factor is the cosmetics you use. Make sure you’re using noncomedogenic (look for it on the label) cosmetics. Noncomedogenic means it doesn’t close your pores.
For men with acne usually disappears in your twenties. But it can persist even as an adult. This is more likely to occur with the type of outbreaks that affect the body as well as the face. Males are more prone to have this pattern of outbreaks than females. It’s rare, however, for a man to develop pimples if he didn’t have them as a teenager. There are no absolute rules on this.
Male or female it’s always best to speak with a dermatologist to better assess what is causing your acne.
