Diabeta for type 2 diabetes

Diabeta is a prescription drug known as a sulfonylurea antidiabetic medicine. Sulfonylureas help insulin get into the cells where it can work properly to lower blood sugar. In this way, Diabeta will help lower blood sugar and help restore the way you use food to make energy. It may be used alone or with other antidiabetic medicines.

Use of Diabeta

Diabeta is used to treat type 2 diabetes in people who can’t control it with diet and exercise alone. Diabeta tablets are used to control high blood sugar which can help to decrease risk of heart disease, strokes, kidney disease, blindness and blood circulation.

What should you know before using Diabeta?

Make sure to keep all doctor and lab appointments as these tests may be used to monitor your condition or check for side effects. Do not drink alcohol while you are taking Diabeta. It may increase the risk of low blood sugar. Rarely, alcohol may interact with this medication and cause a serious reaction with symptoms such as flushing, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, or stomach pain. Tell your doctor about all other non-prescribed medicines and nutritional supplements and herbal products you are currently taking. Proper diet, regular exercise, and regular blood sugar testing are important for best results with Diabeta. Follow the diet and exercise program given to you by your health care provider.

Before using Diabeta tell your doctor if you:

  • have kidney disease
  • have liver disease
  • have had or are going to have major surgery
  • have a severe infection or injury
  • have thyroid disease
  • have had an unusual or allergic reaction to Diabeta, sulfonamides, other medicines, foods, dyes, or preservatives
  • are pregnant or trying to get pregnant
  • are breast-feeding

How do you take Diabeta?

You should take Diabeta by mouth at the same time everyday with food (as prescribed by your doctor). If you are taking 1 dose daily, take Diabeta with breakfast or the first main meal of the day unless your doctor prescribes otherwise. Do not skip your meal while you are taking Diabeta.

What happens if you miss a dose?

If you have missed a dose take as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double your dose.
