Prolensa (active ingredient: bromfenac) is a prescription medication indicated for:
Prolensa belongs to a class of drugs known as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), which work by blocking certain substances in the body that cause inflammation.
Prolensa is available as an ophthalmic solution and is typically used once a day for two weeks after cataract surgery. It can be applied as a single drop to the affected eye, once a day, starting one day prior to surgery and continuing on the day of surgery and for two weeks following surgery. The recommended dosing is one drop of Prolensa ophthalmic solution once daily.
To apply Prolensa, tilt your head back and look upward. Gently pull down your lower eyelid with one hand to form a pocket. Hold the dropper tip of the bottle with your other hand, and place it close to your eye. Release one drop into your eye by gently squeezing the bottle. Close your eye and gently press your finger to the inside corner of your eye (near your nose) for one to two minutes. This is to prevent the medication from draining out through your tear duct and into the rest of your body.
Follow the dosing instructions provided by your doctor for this medication. Do not apply Prolensa more often than prescribed or continue using it for longer than directed by your doctor, as prolonged use of bromfenac eye drops may increase the risk of serious side effects of the eye.
Prolensa (Bromfenac) is available in the following forms and strength:
Prolensa should be stored at room temperature and kept away from light, heat, and moisture.
If a dose of Prolensa is missed, it should be taken as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, patients should skip the missed dose and continue with their regular dosing schedule.
Prolensa is only indicated for the treatment of postoperative inflammation and the reduction of ocular pain in patients who have undergone cataract surgery.
The onset of action for Prolensa varies depending on the individual, but patients should start to notice a reduction in inflammation and pain within a few days
