Tarceva is a medication used to treat certain types of advanced lung cancer after at least one trial of chemotherapy has failed. It works by blocking growth stimulatory signals in cancer cells, which helps stop cancer cells from growing.
Important Information about Tarceva
Tarceva should be used only under the supervision of a healthcare professional experienced in cancer treatment.
Before using Tarceva tell your doctor if you are allergic to any ingredient in Tarceva; if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant or breastfeeding; if you have liver problems, previous stomach bleeding, or have a history of lung problems.
Consult your doctor if any of the following occur while using Tarceva:
- An allergic reaction (including difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives);
- Lung problems (especially new or worsening difficulty breathing, shortness of breath, increased coughing, fever, or chest pain);
- Severe or persistent nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, or diarrhea; or
- Eye pain or irritation.
Tarceva Side Effects
Common side effects include: Diarrhea; dry skin; fatigue; infection; itching; loss of appetite; mouth ulcers and inflammation; nausea; stomach pain; vomiting.
Serious side effects that require immediate medical attention include: Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); black, tarry stools; cough; dry eyes; eye irritation, redness, or discharge; fever; severe or persistent diarrhea, nausea, loss of appetite, or vomiting; shortness of breath; sore throat; swelling of the hands, legs, or feet; vision problems; vomit that looks like coffee grounds; yellowing of the skin or eyes.
