Atacand

Atacand is an angiotensin II receptor blocker, used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). It may also be used to treat heart failure in certain patients.
It works by helping to relax blood vessels and lower blood pressure.

Before using this medicine, tell your doctor about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding; if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine; if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances; if you are taking blood thinners; if you have stomach problems; if you have peptic ulcers; if you have any other medical conditions like liver or kidney functions, impairment or heart problems; if you have low blood volume or salt (sodium) levels.

Important Safety Information

  • If Atacand is used after the third month of pregnancy, it can cause injury and even death to the fetus.
  • Use caution while driving or operating any machinery as Atacand may cause drowsiness or dizziness.

Atacand Side Effects

Most severe: An allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of your throat; swelling of your lips, tongue, or face; or hives), worsening colitis (fever, abdominal pain, cramping, or bloody diarrhea); or chest pain or shortness of breath.

Most common: Headache, dizziness, fatigue, diarrhea or upset stomach, muscle or joint pain or cramps, insomnia, or congestion or cough. Neck pain, facial edema, edema, lupus-like syndrome, Alopecia, psoriasis (rare), pyoderma gangrenosum (rare), dry skin, erythema nodosum, urticaria.
