Loxapine is an antipsychotic agent used to treat emotional disorders such as schizophrenia. It works by changing the actions of chemicals in your brain.

Important information about Loxapine
Use caution when driving, operating machinery, or performing other hazardous activities as it may cause drowsiness and dizziness. Avoid alcoholic drinks while taking this medicine. It may cause dryness of mouth and skin to become more sensitive to sunlight. Loxapine may also cause skin rash, itching, redness or other discoloration of the skin.
Inform your doctor if you:
- have liver disease or other problems with your liver;
- have kidney disease;
- have heart disease or other heart problems such as high blood pressure, a previous heart attack, or irregular heartbeats;
- have seizures or epilepsy;
- have an enlarged prostate or difficulty urinating; or
- glaucoma.
Loxapine side effects
Most severe: Difficulty in speaking or swallowing; loss of balance control; restlessness, shuffling stiffness of arms and legs; constipation (severe); difficult urination; inability to move eyes; muscle spasms, skin rash, sore throat and fever; increased blinking or spasms of eyelid; unusual bleeding or bruising; yellowing of the eyes or skin.
Most common: Lip smacking or puckering; puffing of cheeks; rapid or fine, worm -like movements of tongue; uncontrolled chewing movements; uncontrolled movements of arms or legs.
Other: Convulsions (seizures); difficult or fast breathing; fast heartbeat or irregular pulse; fever (high); high or low blood pressure; increased sweating; loss of bladder control.
