Having ear wax problems? Try Cerumenex

Cerumenex is a ceruminolytic agent used to break down and loosen earwax that has built up inside the ear canal. It contains an emulsion that breaks down the ear’s natural oils.

How to use Cerumenex

For adults: gently pull the earlobe up and back to straighten the ear canal. For children: gently pull the earlobe down and back to straighten the ear canal.

Lie down or tilt your head so that the affected ear faces up. Drop the medicine into the ear canal. Keep the ear facing up for several minutes so the medicine can run to the bottom of the ear canal.

If you have difficulty keeping the medicine in your ear, ask your doctor about using a clean cotton plug in your ear. Allow solution to remain in the ear for 15 to 30 minutes. Remove cotton and gently flush ear with lukewarm water using a soft rubber ear syringe.

If the first use of this medicine does not remove the earwax, you may repeat the procedure one time. If this medicine spills on your skin, wash it off immediately with soap and water.

To prevent germs from entering the medicine, do not touch the applicator to any surface including the ear.

Precautions

Do not use Cerumenex more often than prescribed. Do not leave in the ear for more than 30 minutes. Do not insert any type of object into the ear canal in an attempt to remove earwax. This may result in a puncture wound and permanent damage to the eardrum. If earwax is not removed after using Cerumenex, please contact your doctor.

Before Cerumenex using tell your doctor if you have a perforated (ruptured) ear drum or an ear infection. Also tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.

Side effects of Cerumenex

Stop taking Cerumenex if you experience any of these following side effects

  • Severe itching;
  • Burning, or irritation of the ear;
  • Crusting, or scaling of the skin around your ear.
