Visine is a medication used to provide relief for various symptoms of eye irritation and allergies, such as redness, dryness, burning, and watering eyes. Visine eye drops contain the active ingredient tetrahydrozoline. Tetrahydrozoline is a vasoconstrictor. It works by narrowing swollen blood vessels in the eyes to reduce eye redness.
Visine eye drop provides soothing relief for itchy, watery eyes caused by allergies to pollen, dust, ragweed, and other allergens, while it also relieves redness and helps clear away eye mucous build-up associated with both allergies and colds.
Before applying the eye drops, wash your hands thoroughly. To avoid contamination, do not touch the dropper tip to your eye or any other surface. If you wear contact lenses, remove them before applying the eye drops. Wait at least 10 minutes before reinserting them. Before using the eye drops, visually inspect the product, and do not use it if the liquid has changed color or appears cloudy. Use the medication as directed by your doctor or up to 4 times per day in the affected eye(s).
Steps to use Visine eye drops, follow the dosing instructions carefully and not exceed the recommended amount.
Do not use this medication for longer than 3 to 4 days at a time. If your condition persists or worsens after 72 hours, or if you think you may have a serious medical problem, stop using the medication and seek medical help immediately.
The recommended dosage of Visine eye drops varies based on the specific product and the severity of the condition being treated.
Overuse of this type of medication may result in increased eye redness (rebound effect when the drug wears off). If you experience this, inform your doctor.
