Tricor Nanocrystallized (active ingredient: fenofibrate) is a prescription medication indicated for the following:

  1. Hypercholesterolemia: Tricor Nanocrystallized is used to reduce elevated levels of cholesterol, particularly low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia or mixed dyslipidemia.
  2. Hypertriglyceridemia: It is also indicated for the treatment of elevated triglyceride levels in patients with hypertriglyceridemia.

Tricor Nanocrystallized belongs to a class of drugs known as fibrates, which work by increasing the activity of lipoprotein lipase, an enzyme that helps break down triglycerides in the blood, and by reducing the production of LDL cholesterol in the liver.

Tricor Nanocrystallized should be taken orally with a glass of water once a day, with or without food. The tablet should not be crushed or chewed, as it can affect the way the medication is absorbed. It should be swallowed whole with water. Avoid consuming grapefruit or grapefruit juice while taking the tablet, as it can increase the risk of side effects.

  • Fenofibrate can cause muscle damage (rhabdomyolysis) which can sometimes be severe and lead to kidney failure. Inform your doctor immediately if you experience unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness while taking fenofibrate.
  • Fenofibrate can increase the risk of developing blood clots. Inform your doctor if you have a history of blood clots or if you experience symptoms such as chest pain, shortness of breath, or leg swelling.
  • Fenofibrate can cause gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal discomfort. Inform your doctor if these symptoms persist or are severe.
