Treximet is a tablet that should be taken by mouth at the first sign of a migraine. You should take it as directed by your doctor, with a full glass of water (8 ounces/240 milliliters). To prevent stomach upset, take Treximet with food, milk, or an antacid. Do not break, crush, or chew the tablet.
The dosage of Treximet is determined by your medical condition, age, and response to treatment. If your symptoms do not improve, do not take additional doses of Treximet before consulting your doctor. If your symptoms are only partially relieved, or if your headache returns, you can take another dose at least two hours after the first dose. You should not take more than two doses of Treximet in a 24-hour period.
The recommended dosage of Treximet for adults with migraine is one 85-mg sumatriptan/500-mg naproxen tablet. It is usually taken at the start of a migraine headache and may be repeated once after two hours if the headache does not go away. The maximum dosage for adults is two tablets per day but the second tablet can be taken two hours after the first tablet if needed. The recommended dosage for children ages 12 years and older is one 85-mg/500-mg tablet
If you use drugs for migraine attacks on 10 or more days each month, the drugs may make your headaches worse. This is called medication overuse headache. Do not use medications more frequently or for longer than prescribed. Inform your doctor if you need to use Treximet more often, or if it is not working well, or if your headaches worsen.
