Linessa (active ingredients: desogestrel and ethinyl estradiol) is a prescription medication indicated for the following:

  1. Contraception: Linessa is used as an oral contraceptive to prevent pregnancy.
  2. Regulation of Menstrual Cycles: It helps in the regulation of menstrual cycles and can be used to manage symptoms associated with irregular periods.

Linessa belongs to a class of drugs known as combined oral contraceptives, which work by inhibiting ovulation, altering the cervical mucus to prevent sperm penetration, and changing the uterine lining to reduce the likelihood of implantation.

Linessa comes in the form of 21- and 28-days tablet to take orally once a day at the same time each day. In case of 21-day pack: Take one tablet daily for 21 days, then do not take any tablets for 7 days, and then begin the next pack. For 28-day pack: Take one tablet daily for 21 days, then take one “reminder” tablet daily for 7 days, and then begin the next pack.

Talk with your doctor about the best time to start your tablets. The first day of your menstrual period (bleeding) is known as “Day 1.” Your doctor may have you start your tablets on the first Sunday after your period starts or on Day 1 of your period. The tablets should be taken approximately the same time every day.

The Linessa tablet should be taken in the order specified on the package and should not be skipped or missed. If you miss a dose, you should take the missed dose as soon as possible, and continue with your regular schedule. Talk to your doctor about any other medications you are taking, as they may interact with Linessa.
