Compound W gel is used in the treatment of acne, dandruff, seborrhea, or psoriasis, and to remove corns, calluses, and warts. It works by using the active ingredient salicylic acid to dissolve the substance that causes skin cells to stick together, which helps to separate the affected skin from the healthy skin and encourages the growth of new, healthy skin cells.

Salicylic acid is a keratolytic (peeling agent) that causes shedding of the outer layer of skin. When applied to warts, calluses, or corns, the gel penetrates the affected area and works to soften and break down the dead skin on the surface.

Compound W Gel can be applied directly to the affected area or with a medicated pad or bandage, and treatment can last up to 2 weeks for corns and calluses and up to 12 weeks for warts, or as directed by a doctor. If contact does occur, flush the affected area with cool water for at least 15 minutes and wash your hands thoroughly after use.

To use Compound W Gel, begin by soaking the affected area in warm water for about 5 minutes to soften the skin. Dry the area thoroughly, and use a pumice stone, callus file, or emery board to remove the top dead layers of skin, but do not try to rub the wart or callus off.

Apply a few drops or a thin layer of the medication to cover the entire wart, callus, or corn, using the provided applicator if available. Be careful to apply it only to the affected area and not the surrounding skin. Allow the medication to dry for 5 minutes; depending on the brand, you may need to apply it twice with each treatment. You may cover the area lightly with a bandage, if desired. Repeat the procedure 1 to 2 times daily for up to 2 weeks for corns and calluses and up to 12 weeks for warts, or as directed by your doctor.

If using a medicated pad or bandage, cut the pad to fit the treatment area completely without touching the surrounding skin. Peel off the protective covering and place the patch/bandage over the area, following the package instructions. Remove and replace the patch/bandage as directed, typically every 8 to 48 hours depending on the brand.

Do not exceed the recommended dose, apply Compound W Gel more often, or use it for a longer period than directed. Use regularly at the same time each day to obtain the maximum benefit. If your condition does not improve or worsens, or if you think you may have a serious medical problem, seek medical attention immediately.
