Anacin is an over-the-counter drug used to treat mild to moderate pain such as headaches, menstrual periods, toothaches, backaches, osteoarthritis or cold/flu aches and pains. It contains aspirin and caffeine as active ingredients. Aspirin is known as salicylate and a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It relieves pain and decreases swelling. Caffeine may help increase the effects of aspirin on pain. These two drugs work together to provide fast relief from pain, inflammation, and discomfort.
In some cases, Anacin is also used to treat or prevent heart attacks, strokes, and chest pain (angina), but should only be used for cardiovascular conditions under the supervision of a healthcare provider.
Anacin is available in tablet form and should be taken orally as directed by your healthcare provider, typically every six hours. To reduce the risk of stomach upset, Anacin should be taken with food or milk, and with a full glass of water (8 ounces/240 milliliters), unless directed otherwise by your healthcare provider. After taking Anacin, remain upright for at least 10 minutes, and the dosage should not be increased or taken more frequently than prescribed.
The appropriate dosage of Anacin for you will depend on your medical condition and your response to treatment, and you should not alter your dosage or use the medication for a longer period than directed by your healthcare provider. Keep in mind that increasing the dosage does not lead to faster improvement of your condition and could increase your risk of side effects.
The recommended dosage of Anacin is based on an individual’s medical condition and response to treatment. Do not exceed the recommended dosage, which is typically 2 tablets every 6 hours for adults and children over 12 years old, and no more than 8 tablets within a 24-hour period.
